Apple’s trial period was also the longest in the industry, with the likes of Spotify and Tidal offering only a month of free trial to their premium subscription.
However, the Cupertino company has silently reduced Apple Music’s trial period for new subscribers to one month. Thankfully, there’s still a way through which you can get an extended Apple Music trial, though it is not exactly free.
Apple Music Free Trial Period Reduced to One Month
Unlike Spotify, Apple Music does not have an ad-supported tier. This is why when the service first launched in 2015, its three-month extended trial period acted as a way to lure new subscribers who were wary of paying for it.
More than six years later, Apple Music has still not surpassed Spotify. However, it is now the second-largest music streaming service globally with a subscriber base of over 78 million, as per data from Statista.
With Apple Music solidifying its position in the streaming market, the company no longer needs to be generous with the trial period.
Additionally, Apple has launched a cheaper Apple Music Voice Plan that starts from just $4.99 that users can subscribe to if they fail to make up their mind on subscribing to the service during the trial period.
How to Use Apple Music Free for 6 Months
While Apple Music’s trial period has been reduced to a month for new subscribers, there’s still a way to get a six-month trial. The company bundles the extended trial period with selected AirPods, HomePod mini, or Beats products.
However, this offer is only for new subscribers. So, if you have previously subscribed to Apple Music or used its trial period, you won’t be eligible for the extended six-month free offer. You will be charged $9.99/month for the subscription at the end of the offer period.
As highlighted on the Apple Music offers page, buying any of the following Apple and Beats products will make you eligible to use Apple Music for free for 6 months:
AirPods Pro AirPods 2/3 AirPods Max HomePod HomePod mini Beats Fit Pro Beats Studio Buds Powerbeats Powerbeats Pro Beats Solo Pro
To avail of the offer, you need to pair your iPhone or iPad with an eligible device. Then, open the Apple Music app and sign into it with your Apple ID. Afterward, you’ll be automatically notified to redeem the offer. If not, head over to the Listen Now tab, where the option should appear.
Apple Is No Longer Being Generous With Apple Music’s Trial Period
Apple Music has solidified itself in the music streaming business, and from a business viewpoint, it’s understandable that Apple no longer needs to lure new subscribers using it. The reduced trial will not be a problem for existing subscribers, which is what ultimately matters to the company.
