Rock-paper-scissors — The outcome is random. Made-ya-look — You must attempt to look the same direction as the villager by using your D-pad. Direction is chosen randomly. Charades — The villager will give you clues and display emotions. If you interpret correctly, you can win this one. It’s not just random.
If you lose the mini-game, a variety of things can happen. The floor or wallpaper in your house could be changed, you might be given a pumpkin mask, your clothes will be changed to patched, or you might get a random piece of common furniture in your inventory. This is the trick. Change your clothes, wallpaper and flooring beforehand to ones that you don’t care about, so you don’t lose your favourites. You should also move valuable or rare items out of your pockets to keep them safe.
